A more simple way to do the playoff system would be to have to win your conference.  That would be 11 teams.

So, 6 would play in round one, producing 3 winners to face 5 other teams in round 2.

  • 8) Ga Tech vs 9) C Michigan  winner vs  1) Alabama
  •                                          4) TCU vs 5) Boise St
  • 6) Oregon vs 11) Troy      winner vs   3) Cincinnati
  • 7) Ohio St. vs 10) E Carolina    winner vs 2) Texas

Wouldn't it be nice to have games going on this weekend?  Then, the teams would play again next week.  They could take Chrismas weekend off and we could have the semifinals on New Year's day. Then, wait a full week or 10 days (whatever night seems best) and have the championship game!!!

The Knicks win over Charlotte isn't the biggest news of the season.  But, there are some things I liked about it.

1) Danilo Gallinari played 36 minutes and had 21 points.  He is maturing by the day.

2)  David Lee is as solid as it gets.  He is going to give you a double double every night.  He was 3 assists away from one against Charlotte.

3)  Wilson Chandler and Chris Duhon are starting to be consistent players.  That gives a nice starting five.

4)  Al Harrington can score and at times score a lot.  Then, you won't see him for a while. This is good and bad.

5)  The player I am most excited about is Jonathon Bender.  He has scored 20 points in 25 minutes the past 2 games.  He could be a very pleasant surprise and success story.

With the Knicks victory over Chicago last night, they pulled to a half game of the playoffs.

David Lee put fourth another solid performance in 18 points and 21 rebounds, along with 5 assists.

Gallinari had a terrible night shooting, but still managed 7 rebounds, 3 assissts and 3 blocks.

Duhon and Chandler didn't put up spectacular numbers but had solid performances.  Jarred Jeffries also played well.

Al Harrington also added 20 points off the bench and is bidding for 6th man of the year award.

That is a group that is getting better as the season goes along.  If they can get anything positive from Larry Hughes, Nate Robinson, and/or Eddie Curry, they will be in great shape.  Those players may be traded, but it could be a hard go in finding takers.  Rookies Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill have been early dissappointments, but they are young and will grow.

There is good news and bad news in last nights loss to the Lakers.  The bad news is that is put them at 13 and 14 and 2 1/2 games out of the playoffs.  And, with a back to back tonight at Phoenix, it's unlikely that will improve tonight.

The good news is that they were up on the Lakers and battled them to teh end at the Staples center.   They competed on the road against the best.  If they play like that, they will win there share of road games.

OKC only played 3 bench players.  Which, may be there best bet this year.  Krstic wasn't effective last night.  However, Ibaka played well with 14 rebounds. The big 3 are going to have to play big in big games.  Durant, Green, and Westbrook.  But the 2 that have to contribute night in and night are Thabo Sefolosha and James Harden.  They are getting better all the time.  I can't wait to see the season progress.  The question is, if the Thunder keep it close, will they take a future pick and trade for inside help now, or stay with the picks and keep building?    Time will tell.  Hopefully, they will be in the position to make that decision.

Winning on the road is tough.  Winning on the road in the second night of back to back games is tougher.  Doing that after playing the Lakers to the end the first night and beating the Suns the next is attention getting.  OKC did just that.  They beat a very very good Phoenix Suns team.

The stats were solid, but two stood out:  only 11 turnovers and 16 offensive rebounds.

Westbrook had 5 of the turnovers but countered that by having 8 assist.  So, the team moved the ball well last night.  Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka both had 4 offensive rebounds.  Ibaka is proving to be a very valuable commodity off the bench.  Serge also went 6 of 8 shooting for 12 points.  Nick Collison did his usual blue collar work with 3 offensive rebounds.
